Programme Note
The Brandenburg Choral Festival of London welcomes back conductor David Rossel, who visits the 2018 Autumn Series with Vocalino Wettingen, a choir originally formed of alumni of Wettingen High School, Switzerland, and now comprising experienced amateur singers aged 20-35. For its festival debut this choir explores some remarkable repertoire for singers and solo cello, played tonight by Martin Merker. The programme includes Sir John Tavener’s Orthodox hymn Svyati, two settings of the requiem mass, one for solo cello by Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe and the UK premiere of Swiss composer Gion Antoni Derungs’s Missa pro defunctis, and two works by popular contemporary composer Ola Gjeilo. Join us in the fine acoustic of St Mary-le-Bow to experience this unusual soundworld in some rarely heard repertoire.
