In this intimate programme, Monteverdi String Band’s artistic director and bass violinist draw on their experience of 17th century string improvisation to explore later manifestations of the arts of ornamentation and accompaniment in masterworks by Arcangelo Corelli and Johann Sebastian Bach.
In June 2015, Violino e violoncello was launched in the context of a collaboration in Basel exploring uncompromised historical techniques; later repertoire is approached through the lens of the early 17th century, so that when we play Corelli, Bach, or Handel, we do so having absorbed the traditions and styles of their predecessors. This autumn we also look forward to appearing at the Brighton Early Music Festival, where we present a new theatrical-musical collaboration on the life of Galileo.
