Programme Note

A program of masterpieces for violin solo from the eighteenth century. Tartini, perhaps the greatest violinist of his era, composed hundreds of works for his instrument including a fascinating set of “little” improvisatory sonatas for violin alone. Telemann’s fantasias for violin solo have long been favourites though this dark example in f minor is rarely heard.

To end, the glorious sonata in a minor by Bach, one of the greatest works of music for violin found in the history of music!
