Programme Note
The London performance in Norwegian pianist Oda Voltersvik's solo concert tour presenting her solo debut CD, Firebird.
The programme of the CD Firebird reflects the unpredictable character of the magical glowing bird in Slavic folklore. The bird can be both a blessing and a curse to its captor. The chosen works are rich pieces in themselves that display complexity and unexpected musical elements. The music describes contrasting characters of innocence or danger, stillness or flight, weakness or power, contemplation or drama. In addition, the luring and mysterious moments bring strong tension to the music. Firebird is released by the KNS classical label.
Pianist Oda Voltersvik holds a Master in Performance from Royal College of Music London and Artist Diploma from Trinity Laban (London) with distinction. Oda has performed at important international venues including Palermo Classica International Festival, the 1st International Folk Music Festival in Beijing, Weill Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, St Martin-in-the-Fields, St James's Piccadilly and concert societies throughout the UK.
Her concert engagements in Norway include annual recitals for a week as Artist in Residence at Edvard Grieg’s home/museum in Bergen (2014-2017), Stavanger Cathedral, Lofoten Cathedral, opening concert during the Grieg Jubilee (2007) alongside Leif Ove Andsnes, performances with the Norwegian National Broadcasting, regular concerts for the Bergen Chamber Music Society and the International Grieg in Bergen Series with solo performances and chamber music (since 2010).
Upcoming events include China’s major concert venues arranged by Wu promotion and the Ravello Society, Italy. She is a 1st prize winner of the Bradshaw-Buono International competition (Volt&Potenza duo), and a finalist of the London Intercollegiate Jaques Samuels competition (Wigmore Hall, 2016). In addition to the solo CD presented tonight, she also has a duo CD Khoreia, with the Volt&Potenza Duo, Velut Luna Label, which is receiving great reviews. Oda is also administrative leader of the Volt Ensemble, who recently held a concert tour supported by the Norwegian Council among others.
