Programme Note
After their 2017 sell-out success, Eugenia Russell and Klimis Voskidis return to 1901 Arts Club to offer a rare opportunity to hear Mendelssohn’s beautiful Sonatas for Violoncello and Piano performed together in one recital.
Klimis Voskidis studied piano performance at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, and continued his studies at the Royal College of Music in London, where he achieved his Master’s Degree in Music as well as the prestigious PGDip, an intensive training programme designed to hone the technique and virtuosity of advanced soloists. He also undertook postgraduate research and taught piano performance at Goldsmiths, University of London.
Klimis is best known as a 19th century expert, having specialised during his Postgraduate studies on the larger works and collections of the core Romantic repertoire. He has performed from this repertoire as a recitalist, as well as appearing in several international masterclasses and as a soloist with the National Orchestra of Athens. Klimis has worked with singers and instrumentalists in a variety of settings, including public performances, auditions and exams.
He teaches the piano and music theory up to an advanced (Diploma) level including ABRSM Grades exams and University/College entrance. He is in great demand as a private teacher and music tutor in west and north London, for example working for the Harrow Arts Centre, Richmond Music Trust and the Music House for Children, Shepherds Bush.
Dr Eugenia Russell is an author, musician and historian. She plays the violoncello and piano; holds a first degree from the Royal Academy of Music, higher degrees from the universities of Bristol and London, and a Pianoforte Diploma with Honours from the Victoria College of Music.
She has strong research interests in Greek history and has published extensively on the art and culture of Byzantium and early modern Greece. Eugenia has taught History, History of Art and Political Philosophy in higher education as well as giving many public talks and lectures. She has had articles commissioned by the British Library, the BBC History Magazine and the Institute of Historical Research (Reviews in History). Her latest book (with Dr Quentin Russell) Ali Pasha, Lion of Ioannina: the remarkable life of the Balkan Napoleon (Pen & Sword, 2018) outlines the political and cultural landscape of the Ottoman Empire immediately prior to the Greek War of Independence.
Eugenia has taught the piano and music theory, as well as academic subjects up to A-level and is currently teaching music in a well-known school in Hertfordshire, England.
