Programme Note

Current members of the BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists Scheme the Consone Quartet specialises in Classical and early-Romantic repertoire on period instruments. Their debut CD of music by Haydn and Mendelssohn was lauded by The Strad as a recording ‘that instantly leaps out of the stereo at you as something special’. In this concert, they perform Haydn’s last-completed string quartet, Mendelssohn’s joyful quartet and the only completed movement from Schubert’s twelfth string quartet, the intense and dramatic Quartettsatz.
