Programme Note

Welcome back to Chineke!, St George’s resident orchestra, and Europe’s first professional orchestra comprising a majority of black and minority ethnic musicians, founded by the ioneering double bass player Chi-chi Nwanoku OBE.

This will be their fourth visit and this varied programme performed by the Chineke! Ensemble is set to be just as thrilling. It features two beautiful movements from a recently discovered Haydn Divertimento, a virtuoso arrangement of Strauss’s Till Eulenspiegel and a new work by Errollyn Wallen whose Concerto Grosso made such an impact here last November. Beethoven’s ever popular Septet, with its famous Minuet movement also used in his Piano Sonata in G completes the programme.
