Programme Note
London Concertante return to St Martin-in-the-Fields as part of their UK & Ireland Four Seasons Tour with a programme of Baroque favourites for all the family.
Regularly touring the length and breadth of the country, as well as abroad to the USA, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands, London Concertante continue to fill concert halls and venues wherever they go. With their exciting programming of classical favourites and hidden gems, and their passionate and thrilling performances, it is no surprise the ensemble are regarded as one of Europe’s finest and most prolific chamber ensembles since their foundation in 1991, reaching critical acclaim on several tours and numerous recordings.
Enjoy the compositional and arranging talents of Russian composer Anton Arensky, as the orchestra play through seven variations of the well known melody by Tchaikovsky; traversing all emotions, with the longing and expansive opening theme, before it develops with passion, intensity and delightful romanticism. The variations are complimented by the virtuosity of Handel's expertly crafted Harpsichord Concerto, and the electric opening of the first and third movements of CPE Bach's Sinfonia No.2, with vibrant violin trills and its energetic, driving accompaniment. All before Vivaldi’s programmatic Four Seasons, what more could you ask for?
If you don’t consider yourself ‘in the know’ about Mozart, Beethoven, or Bach, fear not, this is the orchestra for you. The London Concertante boasts a remarkable audience record in which an impressive 50% of spectators are first time classical concert goers! The London Concertante has its audience laughing at jokes, gasping at virtuosity, moved by gorgeous string playing, and leaving with a smile on their faces.
