André J Thomas, one of the world’s greatest experts in Gospel Music, curates a celebration of music to nourish the soul.
Steadily rising like a cloud of voices, uplifting the spirit, Roland Carter’s joyous Lift Every Voice and Sing kicks off an evening of music blending the sounds of Gospel and the symphony orchestra. The Ave Maria that follows ‘could have been written by anyone a Bach, a Mendelssohn, a Stravinsky, a Dett’ (Nathaniel Dett).
The journey continues through traditional songs like Shine the Light and Get on Board Little Children, to the longer symphonic work I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes, in arrangements by Thomas himself, and a carefully crafted selection of music from Raymond Wise. This is ‘music at its freshest and most life-affirming' (Richard Bratby) that has the power to communicate with us all.
