Programme Note
This concert includes horn sonatas by three major composers of the twentieth century: Arnold Bax, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Edwin York Bowen. These rich and heroic pieces are punctuated by more rhythmic and atmospheric works, including the striking and imaginative 'Triton' by Ruth Gipps.
Performing this recital are the renowned pianist Simon Callaghan and horn player Ben Goldscheider. Together showcasing the perennial harmony of their instruments, the programme also includes Huw Watkins' 'Lament' (2021), first recorded with himself and Goldscheider.
