Programme Note

For the first of our lute-song recitals, Helen Charlston, a BBC New Generation Artist, and Toby Carr present Battle Cry, a programme they recently recorded to great acclaim. Their repertoire rebalances the 17th-century obsession with female abandonment and lament, incorporating works by Purcell, Monteverdi, Barbara Strozzi and their contemporaries, as well as a specially commissioned work by Owain Park.
