Programme Note

The Brandenburg Choral Festival of London welcomes the Medici Choir for this musical feast at St Martin's. In the first half, works spanning from the Baroque era, with Henry Purcell's Oh God, thou art my God, to the present day with several works by the choir's principal conductor and composer-in-residence, John Baird. In between, talented soloists will perform two of the most famous arias from Mozart's opera The Magic Flute, the charming Birdcatcher's Song and the dazzling display of vocal acrobatics that is The Queen of the Night's Aria. After the interval a chance to hear Brahms's best-loved and most performed choral work, the dramatic German Requiem, performed this evening in English. David Gostick conducts with orchestral accompaniment provided by the festival's resident orchestra, the Brandenburg Sinfonia with soloists Luci Briginshaw and Nicholas Morton.
