Tonight's concert features works spanning the centuries, from Byrd and Tomkins in the Renaissance to James MacMillan and Jonathan Dove in the present day. The remarkable contribution made by English composers in the first half of the twentieth century is particularly well represented, with offerings from Bairstow, Elgar, Harris, Howells and Wesley, as well as perhaps the most famous work on the programme, Parry's dramatic I was glad.
